All builders across the nation must conform to the Uniform Building Code (UBC), which dictates how homes should be constructed. One of many requirements is the amount of free air venting an attic should have to meet the UBC code. In simple terms, the roof should have 6.6 square feet of venting per 1000sq feet of attic area with 50% of the venting on top of the roof and 50% at the soffets. A 2200sq foot home should have 14.52 sq feet of venting.
