Regarding KVAR Power Boxes:
This just released from APS in their monthly newsletter:
Manufacturers of power factor correction devices, also called kVAR devices, have been marketing their products throughout Arizona claiming kVAR's would reduce power bills. These devices do not meet the manufacturer's promises of savings.
The United States Environmental Protection Agency has published similar findings on it's ENERGY STAR web site, www.energystar.gov The EPA has seen no data to support the claims these devices improve energy efficiency and reduce residential energy bills. The EPA also points out that these devices do not qualify for ENERGY STAR endorsement or for a a federal tax credit. If you see a kVAR carrying an ENERGY STAR logo, the EPA asks that you alert them via email at: logomisuse@energystar.gov
